Because I am trying to convey as much realism as possible within my film, I will keep my costumes fairly low key however below is a brief list of costume choices for each character and why this reflects them as a person:
Party scene:
Protagonist – In the beginning scenes I would like the protagonists to be dressed relatively smartly with some dark denim straight leg jeans and a shirt, he will be wearing this to the party and it shows that he is from a reasonably good background and wanted to make an effort for the occasion, It will also contrast with the costumes of the other partygoers which shows he is different.
Extras – I would like the extras to be wearing polo shirts and hoodies throughout the party scene to show that they haven’t made an effort at all, this suggests that they have no respect for themselves or their appearance and also highlights the fact that the protagonist doesn’t quite fit in which is a theme continued throughout my film.
Female lead – I would like the female lead to be wearing a hoody and jeans which shows that she fits in with the other partygoers and contrasts further with the protagonist in later scenes.
Walking down the street:
As the protagonist and female lead walk down the street I want them to be wearing the same outfits as in the party scene to show that they are either coming from or going to the party.
In the bedroom:
Protagonist – T shirt and jeans, this is showing that he is dossing with his friends and does not feel the need to make and effort, it also shows a degeneration in his character.
Female lead – baggy shirt and jeans, this highlights once again that the female lead has no concern for her appearance which suggests that her mind is occupied with other things which ties in well with the underlying theme of drug abuse throughout my film.
Extras – The extras will be wearing hoodys, t shirts and jeans or tracksuit bottoms to tie in with the feeling of tattered neglect that the bedroom itself evokes.
At home:
Protagonist – whilst at home the protagonists will wear a jacket and jeans which is slightly smarter than when he was at his friends house this change of clothing highlights once again, the contradiction of values that the protagonist is constantly experiencing.
In the picture:
Protagonist – In the family picture the protagonist will be wearing a smart jacket and a warm hat because it is a winter scene, his smart attire will emphasis fully the change in his character.
Cellar:
Protagonist – Here the protagonist will be wearing a tattered hoody and jeans, he will also be clutching a sleeping bag and this will show his final deterioration both mentally and physically.
