Music video theory

With music videos being a fairly new concept there are very few theory’s related to this however, Andrew Goodwin created a theory that was able to identify features that suggest that music video is a form.
There is a strong relationship between the music and visuals occurring in the video, with the visuals illustrating, amplifying or contradicting the lyrics.
There is a relationship between the music and the visuals with the visuals illustrating, amplifying or contradicting the music.
Voyeurism is present in many, especially in the treatment of females, but also in terms of systems of looking such as mirrors.
There may be intertextual references, either to other music videos or films and television texts; these provide further gratification and pleasure for the audience.
Genres are complex and diverse in terms of music video style and iconography.
There will be a lot of close ups of the artist or vocalist, often at the specification of the record company or manager.
